Village Babies recognizes that social and emotional learning is at the forefront of child development. We understand that it is critical for children to be offered developmentally appropriate opportunities to further expand their social and emotional skills. These skills are crucial for a life of success. You will see these learning opportunities through games of peekaboo in our infant programs, labeling emotions through songs with our toddlers, and cozy corners and breathing exercises for our preschoolers. Our goal is to provide all children with the tools that promote and nurture self regulation.
Our preschool students participate in a social and emotional learning program called Calm Classroom. Calm Classroom is the largest provider of school-wide mindfulness programming in the United States. The program introduces mindfulness strategies to achieve emotional well-being and activate the relaxation response. The ongoing research behind this program has shown positive outcomes regarding behavior improvements, reduced student and teacher stress, increased engagement, and improvement of overall executive functioning. The goal of this program and practices is to integrate mindfulness throughout the day and as part of the classroom culture. The students practice stretching, breathing, focusing, and relaxation exercises. Engaging in these activities promotes a greater sense of self-awareness, mental focus, and emotional resilience.
Here at Village Babies we live by the quote, “Love Causes Learning.” This quote can be proven true through scientific research , and this is a concept which we integrate into our practices at Village Babies. Everyday the teachers focus on building a connection with the children and families, which they understand is crucial for learning to occur. Once children feel safe and secure, then learning can happen.
